Area Rugs Care
Simple Tips to Prolong The Life Of Area Rugs
Taking care of your area rugs may not seem important, as they tend to last around 12 years. However if you wish to get your money’s worth out of every last fiber, then you should read the following area rugs care tips:
- Rotate area rugs about once a year so sun exposure and general wear and tear is even.
- Don’t place area rugs in areas where they will be exposed to direct sunlight.
- Vacuum area rugs at least once a week. Vacuuming will remove dirt and dust and rejuvenate area rugs fibers.
- Avoid placing furniture on top of area rugs; the weight pressure will damage area rugs much faster.
- Take note of the foot traffic area rugs are exposed to. Perhaps moving area rugs to another place where less people will walk on them is a good idea. An even easier way is to just rotate all area rugs.
- Shampoo area rugs at least twice per year. This will remove the dirt which vacuuming area rugs cannot eradicate.
- Try not to eat or drink near your area rugs as it increases the chance of area rug stains. The more stains your area rugs are exposed to, the more the area rugs will deteriorate.
- Treat stains on area rugs as quickly as you can. The longer a stain is present, the harder it will be to remove from your area rugs.
- Occasionally have your area rugs professionally cleaned. This will prolong the area rugs life and clean them better than any other option. This will also reduce the chances of the area rugs triggering allergic reactions.
- Every 6 months vacuum the underside of area rugs - that part of your area rugs needs cleaning too.
- Lay area rugs on a smooth surface for less wear.
- It’s a good idea to snip any loose ends on area rugs. Do not pull them, as that will do more damage to the area rugs.
- Don’t leave area rugs damp; make sure to dry wet area rugs promptly, even fully washable area rugs.
- When cleaning area rugs never vigorously scrub, instead use more gentle movements to treat your area rugs.
- Don’t over-wet, over-clean, over-shampoo or over-rearrange your area rugs for the longest lifespan.
As you can see, maintaining your area rugs and increasing their life span isn’t at all difficult. Using common sense and doing everything in moderation is the key to healthy area rugs.
