Shaw Industries Group, Inc. has joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise program in an effort to promote its environmental and sustainability efforts and continue defining goals to reduce waste and recycle its products. “One of the key elements of the Shaw Green Edge Business Sustainability strategy is materials resource management, which embraces all our many efforts around waste minimization, reclamation and recycling, be it process materials or flooring products at the end of their service life,” said Rick Ramirez, Shaw vice president of corporate sustainability and environmental affairs.
This achievement was recognized by the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) 2007 Large Recycler of the Year Award and the 2008 EPA/CARE Innovation in Recycling Award in recognition of the Evergreen Facility.
“WasteWise partners like Shaw not only commit to reduce waste, but also help address global climate change,” said Stan Meiburg, EPA acting regional administrator. “By decreasing the demand on raw materials through waste reduction and recycling, WasteWise partners have shown that they can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower costs and minimize their environmental footprint.”
